ALACHUA, Alachua County, Fla., Sept. 27, 2026 — One person died, and another was seriously hurt after a multi-vehicle crash shut down part of Northwest Highway 441 on Saturday night, September 26. The crash involved four vehicles traveling in opposite directions.
Troopers said an 18-year-old woman from Lake City was driving south on US 441 around 8:40 p.m. when she reportedly lost control of her car. Her vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and struck a pickup truck driven by a 33-year-old man, according to the report. The impact caused her car to flip, and debris reportedly struck two more vehicles traveling behind the pickup.
The 33-year-old man died at the scene, while the 18-year-old woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The conditions of the other drivers involved have not been released.
The Alachua Police Department closed both directions of NW US Highway 441 between Turkey Creek Boulevard and NW County Road 237 around 10 p.m. as crews worked the scene. The road reopened by 3:30 a.m., according to police.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. No charges have been announced.
