Alexandria, VA (January 5, 2026) – A Virginia State Police trooper sustained injuries after a crash occurred during a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 495 on Sunday afternoon. The incident unfolded at approximately 3:47 p.m. on January 5 and remains under investigation by state authorities.
According to a press release from Virginia State Police, the trooper had initiated a traffic stop on a Honda Accord traveling westbound on I-495 for reckless driving. The driver of the vehicle refused to comply, triggering a pursuit that continued along the interstate.
As the suspect exited the interstate at Van Dorn St, the trooper decided to terminate the pursuit to prevent a collision with another vehicle. In the process of ending the chase, the trooper’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, resulting in injuries.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. The injured trooper received on-site medical attention before being transported for further evaluation. The specific nature and severity of the injuries have not been released, but the trooper was confirmed to be hurt in the collision.
