ANAHEIM, Orange County, Calif., Oct. 24, 2026 — A four-vehicle crash blocked a lane on northbound Interstate 5 just north of Katella Avenue in Anaheim on Friday afternoon, October 23, according to the California Highway Patrol. At least one person was reported injured.

The collision was first reported as a three-vehicle wreck involving a white Tesla, a blue Toyota Corolla and a dark Ford F150, with a caller trapped inside one of the vehicles. The report was upgraded to an ambulance response within minutes as dispatchers confirmed an injury. A fourth vehicle was later identified in the wreckage, which investigators described as a silver Toyota Corolla, a white Kia, and a white pickup truck blocking the number one lane.

Emergency crews requested a second tow truck as cleanup widened, and a third tow was called in from a company based in Anaheim and Fullerton. A Freeway Service Patrol unit that had responded to the scene later closed out its assignment as the California Highway Patrol kept the lane closed for a time before reopening it to traffic.

The crash remains under investigation. No cause had been released as of Friday afternoon, and the extent of injuries beyond the initial report had not been detailed.

We wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are secondary crashes common after an initial wreck?

Yes. Stopped or slowed traffic from a first collision usually creates a hazard for approaching drivers, especially on freeways where speeds stay high until drivers see brake lights. That's part of why crews work to move vehicles and reopen lanes quickly.

What makes multi-vehicle crashes hard to investigate?

With several vehicles involved, investigators have to reconstruct the order of impacts, figure out which vehicle struck which, and sort through multiple accounts of what happened before anyone can determine fault or a cause.

What causes multi-vehicle pile-ups?

They usually start with one vehicle slowing or stopping unexpectedly, then build as following drivers can't react in time. Heavy traffic, reduced visibility, and following too closely are common contributing factors.

What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Anaheim, CA

If you're involved in a pile-up, try to stay inside your vehicle unless it's unsafe, especially on a freeway shoulder or active lane. Turn on hazard lights and call 911 if it hasn't already been reported. Even if you feel fine, it's worth getting checked by a medical provider afterward, since injuries from a chain-reaction crash aren't always obvious right away. Take photos of vehicle positions and damage if you're able to safely, and get contact and insurance information from everyone involved. Expect the process to take time; with several vehicles and drivers involved, these crashes usually take longer to sort out than a simple two-car wreck.
