ANGIER, Harnett County, N.C., Oct. 18, 2026 — One person died and eight others were injured Saturday night, October 17, when a passenger van and a Honda crashed at the intersection of NC Highway 210 and Old Stage Road near Angier, according to the Harnett County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrived just after 9:30 p.m. and found the van overturned off the roadway with several occupants trapped inside, the sheriff's office said. The Honda had also left the roadway. The Angier Black River Fire Department and Harnett County EMS were sent to the scene after dispatchers logged the crash around 9:30 p.m.
The response was upgraded to a mass casualty incident, which brought in four additional ambulances along with an EMS supervisor from Johnston County and medic units from Coats Grove and Buies Creek, officials said. A Harnett County EMS supervisor confirmed one person died at the scene. All occupants of the van were reportedly freed and taken to waiting ambulances.
Eight people were taken to WakeMed with injuries described as varying in severity, according to officials. Scanner traffic reviewed by the outlet indicated the ages of those transported ranged from 8 to 66, though that detail has not been officially confirmed. A bystander at the scene told reporters the van was returning from a church event, but did not name the church, and that account has not been verified by investigators.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers from Harnett County's Troop B and Johnston County's Troop C are investigating the crash. The cause has not been determined, and the identity of the person killed has not been released. The intersection was closed for several hours, reopening around 1 a.m.
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased.
