ARCADIA, Los Angeles County, Calif., Oct. 18, 2026 — A multi-vehicle crash blocked lanes on eastbound I-210 at West Huntington Drive early on Saturday morning, October 17, according to the California Highway Patrol. The agency issued a SigAlert after the crash left several vehicles blocking the freeway.
The California Highway Patrol said the incident began shortly before 2:45 a.m. with a report of a white Sprinter van colliding with an SUV of an unspecified color near the West Huntington Drive off-ramp. Additional vehicles were reportedly involved soon after, including a white Toyota Tundra and a white van blocking the middle lanes, and two semi-trucks were also reported blocking lanes, according to radio traffic logged by dispatchers.
Monrovia Fire Department units responded to the scene, and Altadena-area personnel were also sent to assess the extent of injuries, though the severity was not immediately released. CHP units arrived at the scene shortly after 3 a.m. A tow truck was requested to begin clearing wreckage, and the highway patrol issued a one-hour SigAlert affecting the second, third, and fourth lanes as crews worked to clear the roadway.
Authorities reported a fire involving one of the vehicles, which also contributed to the lane closures. The California Highway Patrol diverted eastbound traffic near Santa Anita Avenue and Rosemead Boulevard while the scene was cleared. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
We hope those who were hurt recover fully and quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can drivers avoid getting caught in a pile-up on the freeway?
Keeping a safe following distance and scanning well ahead for brake lights or slowing traffic gives drivers more time to react before a chain-reaction crash develops.
What should I do if I come upon a crash scene on the highway?
Slow down well before reaching the scene, move into a lane away from the wreckage if possible, and watch for emergency crews, stopped vehicles, and debris in the roadway.
How does fog or low light affect multi-vehicle crashes like this one?
Reduced visibility, whether from fog, darkness, or glare, cuts down the distance drivers have to spot trouble ahead, which is part of why early morning hours often see these pileups.
Why does following distance matter so much on freeways?
A longer gap between vehicles gives drivers more room to brake safely if traffic ahead stops suddenly, which can prevent one crash from turning into several.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Arcadia, CA
If you're involved in or come upon a multi-vehicle crash, check yourself and any passengers for injuries before stepping out of the vehicle, and stay belted in if traffic is still moving nearby. Move to a safe area away from live lanes whenever possible. Call 911 to report injuries or ongoing hazards, even if the crash has already been reported. Seek medical evaluation promptly, since some injuries from sudden stops or impacts aren't obvious right away. Exchange information with other drivers if it's safe to do so, and file a report with local police or the California Highway Patrol.
