How Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes Are Investigated
When a pedestrian is struck and the driver leaves the scene, investigators often review surveillance footage, vehicle debris, and witness statements to identify the suspect vehicle. Even small pieces of evidence can help trace a car involved in a crash.
Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable in roadway incidents, especially at night when visibility may be reduced. Serious injuries are common when a vehicle strikes someone on foot.
Hit-and-run cases can lead to felony charges when a victim is critically hurt. These investigations typically focus on both identifying the driver and determining how the crash occurred.
