San Diego, CA (August 17, 2026) – According to official statements, at least six people were injured on Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 8 near Sports Arena Boulevard in San Diego. The collision was reported around 9:56 a.m. south of Mission Bay.
CHP initially reported five vehicles involved, including a silver Volkswagen Jetta, a white Kia, a black Rivian, and two gray vehicles. The Jetta had deployed airbags, while two vehicles were blocking the right lane with heavy damage. Three additional vehicles were reported on the right side of the freeway.
Two people were taken by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital with minor injuries, while two others were transported to UC San Diego Health’s Hillcrest campus. The crash was cleared around 11 a.m. This is a developing story.
