ATLANTA, Fulton County, Ga., Nov. 4, 2026 — Three drivers were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon, November 2, on Roosevelt Highway, according to the Georgia State Patrol. One driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, while the other two were taken by ambulance with serious injuries.
Troopers stationed in Forest Park responded to the highway at about 2:43 p.m.; they believe a northbound GMC Yukon driven by a 41-year-old man crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a Ford Transit van head-on. The van, driven by a 49-year-old man, was pushed back into the northbound lanes, where it was then hit by a Cadillac Escalade driven by a 53-year-old man.
The van's driver was the one airlifted to the hospital, troopers said. The two other drivers were taken to a hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. Roosevelt Highway was closed in both directions for about four hours while emergency crews worked the scene.
No charges have been announced. The Georgia State Patrol's investigation into the crash remains active, and officials have not released further details on what caused the Yukon to cross into oncoming traffic.
We wish the injured a complete and speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are most common in head-on crashes like this one?
Head-on collisions commonly cause chest, head, and leg injuries, along with internal injuries from the force of impact. Severity usually depends on speed and whether a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic.
What typically causes a vehicle to cross the center line?
Common causes include distracted driving, drowsy driving, impairment, or a driver losing control on the roadway. Investigators review scene evidence and witness accounts to determine the cause in each case.
How does speed affect the severity of a crash?
Higher speeds increase the force of impact, which raises the likelihood of serious or life-threatening injuries and makes vehicles harder to control once they begin to drift or skid.
Why is distracted driving considered so risky?
Taking attention off the road for even a few seconds can prevent a driver from correcting course or reacting to another vehicle, which can lead to lane departures and head-on collisions.
