Why ATV Crashes Often Lead to Severe Injuries
ATVs offer little physical protection in a roadway crash, which can increase the risk of serious injury when riders strike another vehicle or a fixed object. Rollovers and side impacts are also common because of the vehicle’s smaller size and open design.
Head, neck, and spinal trauma are frequently reported in ATV collisions, especially when riders are thrown from the vehicle or hit surrounding objects. Medical teams often evaluate fractures, bleeding, and internal trauma after these kinds of roadway accidents. Riding at night may create additional risks due to lower visibility and shorter reaction times. Safety equipment, passenger positioning, and roadway surfaces are also factors commonly reviewed when examining how an ATV collision occurred.
