Frequently Asked Questions
Where do most pedestrian accidents happen?
Many pedestrian crashes occur at intersections or roadway crossings, especially where visibility is limited or vehicles are turning. Streets without dedicated crosswalks or signals also see frequent incidents.
Are pedestrian accidents more common at night?
Yes. Reduced visibility after dark makes it harder for drivers to see pedestrians, and a large share of pedestrian deaths nationally happen at night or in low-light conditions.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk?
Pedestrians generally have the right of way in marked and unmarked crosswalks, but drivers and walkers both need to watch for oncoming traffic before proceeding, since right-of-way rules don't prevent a collision if someone isn't paying attention.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident in Auburndale, FL
Anyone involved in or witnessing a pedestrian crash should call 911 right away so medical help can reach the scene quickly. Even if injuries seem minor at first, a medical evaluation is important, since some injuries, like internal bleeding or head trauma, aren't obvious right away. If you're a witness, try to note details like the vehicle's direction of travel, color, and any identifying features, and stay until law enforcement arrives to give a statement. Keep a copy of any police report filed and follow up with your own doctor in the days after, even if you were treated at the scene. Auburndale residents can also contact local police non-emergency lines for updates on open investigations.
