Augusta County, VA (January 14, 2026) – One person was hospitalized following a serious head-on collision involving two large trucks Tuesday afternoon in Augusta County, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).
The crash occurred at approximately 4:37 p.m. in the 5200 block of Lee Jackson Highway. Authorities confirmed that a tanker truck and another heavy-duty truck collided head-on, resulting in significant vehicle damage and serious injuries to at least one driver.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene and transported one of the drivers to a local hospital. VSP described the injuries as serious but not life-threatening.
As of 5:48 p.m., all northbound and southbound lanes on Lee Jackson Highway remained closed. The Virginia Department of Transportation reported that the closure would last for an “extended period of time” while crews worked to clean up debris and investigators assessed the cause of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details about the drivers and contributing factors have not yet been released.
