Aurora, CO (January 31, 2026) – A tragic hit-and-run crash Friday night in Aurora claimed the life of one man and left an infant with serious injuries at the intersection of East 13th Ave and Peoria St. Police and emergency medical crews responded to the scene shortly after 8:00 p.m. as the incident unfolded in a heavily traveled area.
According to authorities, the collision occurred when a Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling southbound on North Peoria St reportedly entered the intersection at a high rate of speed and struck a Volvo sedan that was moving eastbound through East 13th Ave. The impact caused severe damage and immediately drew attention from nearby witnesses.
Medical personnel quickly arrived and began providing care to those injured in the crash. The driver of the Volvo, an adult male, suffered critical injuries and was transported to the hospital for emergency treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, police later confirmed that he died as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision. A one-year-old child involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators stated that the driver of the Chevrolet allegedly fled the scene on foot after being confronted by witnesses. Officers responded rapidly and established a perimeter in the area, focusing their search near Nome Park, which is located close to the crash site. Police reported that the suspect was taken into custody just before 9:00 p.m.
The identity of the deceased victim is expected to be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
