Aurora, CO (January 26, 2026) – A deadly multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 225 claimed one life and left another individual with minor injuries during the evening commute in Aurora.
The accident occurred on January 23 in the northbound lanes of I-225 just north of the East Colfax Avenue exit. According to the Aurora Police Department, the crash involved three vehicles and began when a work van struck the rear of a Ford SUV, causing a chain reaction that involved an Infiniti SUV as well.
Authorities reported that the man driving the work van was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Another occupant, identified as being in the Ford, sustained minor injuries and was also taken for medical evaluation. The driver of the Infiniti did not report any injuries at the scene.
The crash caused immediate traffic disruption, with a full closure of the northbound lanes during the response. One lane was later reopened as investigators continued their work, and the highway was fully cleared by 9 p.m. The Colorado Department of Transportation noted significant traffic delays extending north from East Colfax Avenue.
Preliminary findings suggest that vehicle speeds were lower than typical highway travel at the time of the collision, though the investigation remains ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who lost his life in this tragic event and wish a full recovery to those who were injured.
