Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes crashes between cars and bicycles?
These crashes commonly happen at intersections or driveways, when a driver or cyclist fails to see the other person entering the road, or when a vehicle turns across a bike's path.
Where do most car-bicycle collisions take place?
Most occur at intersections and other points where a cyclist enters or crosses a roadway, rather than on open stretches of road.
What is "dooring" and why is it a hazard for cyclists?
Dooring happens when someone in a parked car opens a door into the path of an oncoming cyclist, usually giving the rider little time to react or swerve safely.
How can cyclists reduce their risk while riding in traffic?
Using lights and reflective gear, following traffic signals, staying visible at intersections, and making eye contact with drivers before crossing their path can help cyclists stay safer.
