Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes motorcycle accidents like this one?
Common factors include a driver failing to see an oncoming motorcycle, turning or pulling out in front of one, following too closely, or speeding. Investigators typically look at driver visibility and right-of-way first.
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than car crashes?
A motorcycle offers no outer shell to absorb impact, so riders are more exposed to being thrown from the bike or striking the pavement or another vehicle directly.
How do vehicles pulling out of driveways or parking lots create risk for motorcyclists?
Drivers pulling out usually look for other cars and can miss a motorcycle's narrower profile, especially at dusk or at night, which can lead to a collision like the one described here.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles more easily?
Checking twice before pulling into traffic, slowing down at driveways and intersections, and giving extra following distance can help drivers notice motorcycles sooner.
