Austin, TX (February 25, 2026) – Two people were hurt in a seven-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on N I-35 in north Austin. The collision occurred in the 16400 block of northbound I-35 at about 6:16 a.m.
Emergency units responded after receiving reports of a multi-vehicle accident along the southbound lanes. The crash led to the closure of southbound traffic for nearly two hours as crews worked to clear damaged vehicles and debris from the roadway.
Two people were taken to a local hospital with injuries. The full extent of those injuries has not been released. The roadway reopened at approximately 8:05 a.m., and traffic resumed through the area.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Do Multi-Vehicle Crashes Frequently Occur During Morning Commutes?
Heavy traffic during early morning hours increases the risk of chain-reaction collisions. Drivers often travel close together, leaving little room to stop if traffic suddenly slows.
On busy highways like I-35, one abrupt brake or lane change can quickly involve several vehicles. Limited reaction time and varying speeds between lanes may cause a single impact to spread through surrounding traffic.
Congestion also makes it harder for drivers to maneuver away from a developing hazard. Maintaining a safe following distance and staying alert to changing traffic conditions can help reduce the likelihood of multi-vehicle crashes during peak commute times.
