Bakersfield, CA (January 12, 2026) – A male pedestrian lost his life early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle while crossing S H St in Southeast Bakersfield. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 1:51 a.m. on January 11, in the 4200 block near White Lane, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Officers arrived to find the man lying in the roadway with severe injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators stated that the man had been crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a northbound gray Nissan sedan.
The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. At this time, it is unclear whether impairment or speed played a role in the crash. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
Police closed off the area during the investigation and conducted a thorough review of the crash site. Additional details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
