BAY LAKE, Orange County, Fla., Oct. 29, 2026 — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and another driver were seriously injured Tuesday night, October 27, when a pickup truck struck a patrol car on State Road 429 near Walt Disney World, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened just after 9 p.m. in the southbound lanes at mile marker 6 in the Bay Lake area, FHP said. A 2026 Toyota Tundra was heading southbound through an active construction zone where the patrol car was working a lane closure. Troopers said the Tundra's driver failed to move over for the marked patrol vehicle, and the front of the truck hit the rear of the cruiser.
The Tundra's driver, a 53-year-old man from Davenport, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, FHP reported. The trooper was airlifted to a hospital and is also listed with serious injuries but is said to be in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been announced.
Our hope is that both the trooper and the other driver recover fully. We hope everyone who was hurt makes a full and speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do right after a car accident?
Check for injuries, call 911, and move to a safe location if possible. Stay put until officers arrive, exchange information with the other driver, and photograph the scene if you're able to do so safely.
Where do most traffic crashes happen?
Crashes cluster on highways and interchanges during peak travel times, and construction zones add extra risk because lanes narrow and workers or emergency vehicles may be stopped nearby.
What injuries are common in crashes like this?
Rear-end and construction-zone collisions often cause whiplash, head and neck injuries, broken bones, and internal injuries, depending on speed and impact angle. Anyone involved should be checked by a medical provider even if they feel fine at the scene.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Bay Lake, FL
If you're involved in a crash near a work zone or roadside stop in Bay Lake, slow down and move over if you can do so safely, both for your own protection and for anyone already stopped on the shoulder. After any collision, get a medical check even if injuries seem minor, since some symptoms take hours or days to appear. Keep a copy of the police report, note any citations issued, and follow up with your insurer promptly. If the crash involved a construction zone or an emergency vehicle, Florida's Move Over Law may factor into how fault is determined.
