BEAUMONT, Jefferson County, Texas, Oct. 23, 2026 — A pedestrian was hurt on Thursday afternoon, October 22, after a man fleeing police hit two vehicles and the pedestrian in the 2900 block of South 8th Street in Beaumont. The man was arrested shortly after the crash.
Beaumont police said they located a stolen vehicle tied to a hit-and-run using the department's Real Time Crime Center around 2 p.m. When officers approached the driver, identified by police as 21-year-old Marquese Thomas, he reportedly drove off, striking two other vehicles and a pedestrian before abandoning the car and running on foot, according to police spokesperson Chancellor Van Houten.
Officers caught up with Thomas a short distance away and took him into custody, Van Houten said. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and was reported in stable condition.
Investigators said the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Fort Bend County and that Thomas had an outstanding warrant at the time of his arrest. A handgun and suspected illegal narcotics were also recovered from the vehicle.
Thomas is being held at the Jefferson County jail on a $15,000 bond for theft of property, according to jail records. He also faces bondless charges including aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, evading arrest causing bodily injury, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
We hope everyone who was hurt makes a full and speedy recovery.
