BEL AIR, Los Angeles County, Calif., Oct. 31, 2026 — A multi-vehicle crash on southbound I-405 just north of Skirball Center Drive sent at least one person to the hospital on Friday afternoon, October 30.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash was first reported as a collision between a white Honda Civic and a white Toyota Tundra pickup, blocking the number one lane. Dispatch logs show a second vehicle, described as a blue sedan, was also involved, with front-end damage and a deployed airbag, blocking the number two lane. It was not immediately clear how the vehicles came together.
Radio traffic indicated white or gray smoke was coming from under the hood of the Honda after the crash, and at least one occupant was described as crying with airbags deployed inside that vehicle. A caller at the scene reportedly said their Honda had shut off and that they could not take their foot off the brake without the car rolling. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene, and the California Highway Patrol later classified the incident as a minor injury collision.
All lanes were briefly reported stopped as crews worked to clear the roadway, with vehicles moved to the right shoulder to restore traffic flow. Authorities have not released further details on the number of people hurt or the cause of the crash, and the incident remains under review.
We wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed make a difference in how serious a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force involved when vehicles collide, which usually means more serious vehicle damage and injuries.
Why is distracted driving considered so risky?
Taking eyes or attention off the road for even a few seconds, especially in heavy highway traffic, can prevent a driver from braking or steering in time to avoid a crash.
Can weather or road conditions contribute to a crash like this?
Wet or slick pavement, debris, or poor visibility can reduce traction and following distance, making it harder for drivers to stop safely, though it is not known whether conditions played a role in this crash.
What should someone do immediately after a car accident?
Check for injuries, move to a safe location if possible, call 911, and exchange information with other drivers while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.
