Benton, LA (January 22, 2026) – A tragic accident claimed the life of a Bossier Parish sheriff’s deputy on Wednesday morning after a train collided with his vehicle at a railroad crossing on Highway 3 near Benton Rd and Kingston Rd.
The incident occurred on January 21 around 8:00 a.m., as Deputy Tim Jordan, 40, was conducting a traffic assignment in the area. According to preliminary findings, Deputy Jordan may have misjudged the distance between his patrol vehicle and the approaching train. The train struck his vehicle at the crossing, resulting in critical injuries.
Emergency crews transported Deputy Jordan to Ochsner LSU Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He had served with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office for four years and was widely respected among his colleagues and the community.
In a statement issued by the sheriff’s office, Sheriff Julian Whittington said, “This is an extremely difficult day for the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Jordan’s family, and his fellow deputies. Deputy Jordan was a dedicated public servant who took pride in protecting the citizens of Bossier Parish, and his loss is deeply felt throughout our agency and community.”
The Louisiana State Police are leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not released further details at this time.
