Bethesda, MD (June 9, 2026) – An electrical explosion-like incident at the Medical Center Metro station on Rockville Pike left three workers injured on Monday morning, June 8.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, emergency crews responded around 7:45 a.m. after reports of an explosion and possible electrical injuries inside a work area connected to an electrical vault or shaft. Officials said the incident likely involved electrical equipment while workers were operating in a confined space.
Fire and rescue personnel reported that three individuals were injured. One worker was transported as a Priority 1 trauma patient, while two others were transported as Priority 2 patients. Officials said the workers suffered electrical burns and related injuries. All three were taken to area hospitals for treatment. We are hoping for a full recovery for everyone involved.
What Information Is Typically Reviewed After an Electrical Worksite Incident?
Incidents involving electrical systems in work zones are often reviewed by examining the equipment being serviced, the condition of electrical vaults or cables, and whether proper safety procedures were followed. Investigators may assess whether workers were in confined spaces and how energy sources were managed at the time of the event.
Worksite layout and access conditions are also commonly evaluated, especially when incidents occur underground or inside restricted utility areas. These environments can increase risk due to limited space and exposure to high-voltage systems.
Medical reports and injury patterns, such as burns, may also help clarify the type of electrical exposure involved. In many cases, physical inspection of equipment and tools is used to help determine how the incident developed.
