What Investigators Review in Bicycle-Vehicle Collisions
Collisions between bicycles and motor vehicles often involve an analysis of traffic control compliance, such as stop signs and signals. Investigators typically look at whether the bicyclist and driver were following traffic rules leading up to the crash.
The position and speed of both the vehicle and bicycle are reviewed, along with road conditions and visibility. Witness statements, along with any available video footage, help reconstruct the sequence of events.
Even minor misjudgments in timing or distance can lead to serious injury, particularly because bicyclists have far less physical protection than vehicle occupants. Understanding these factors can help prevent similar accidents in the future.
