Our sympathy goes out to the loved ones of Donald Conway.
What Investigators Review in Bicycle and Vehicle Intersection Cases
When a bicycle and a vehicle collide at an intersection, investigators review signal timing, right-of-way rules, and how each party entered the crossing. Traffic light cycles are analyzed to see how signal changes may have influenced movement.
In Louisiana, bicycle-related crashes are a recurring safety concern. According to state and federal traffic safety data, dozens of bicyclists are killed, and hundreds more are injured each year in collisions with motor vehicles across the state. Intersections are among the most common locations for these incidents, due to turning conflicts, failure to yield, or misjudgment of speed and distance.
Investigators also assess visibility, driver awareness, and physical evidence such as vehicle position, debris, and roadway markings. Witness statements can further help clarify how the collision unfolded.
