Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crashes Leave Riders at Serious Risk
Bicyclists have little protection when they are struck by a vehicle. A rider may be thrown onto the roadway or suffer severe trauma from the force of contact.
When a driver leaves the area, early reports may lack important details about the vehicle, the driver’s actions, or the moments before the collision. This can make the first stage of the review more difficult.
Morning crashes may also involve changing light, commuter traffic, and limited visibility near intersections. Later updates may clarify travel direction, lane position, vehicle speed, and where the bicyclist was before being hit. These facts can help explain how the crash happened and why the injuries proved fatal.
