Salem, AL (July 29, 2026) – A bicyclist was fatally hurt after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 280 East in Lee County early on Monday morning, July 27. The accident happened in the 8000 block of the highway at approximately 4:02 a.m.
The Lee County Coroner’s Office identified the bicyclist as Samuel Ryár, 30, of Slovakia. According to the coroner, Ryár was riding across the United States from San Diego, California, to Savannah, Georgia, when he was struck by a vehicle. He died from blunt force injuries.
Ryár was visiting the United States during his bicycle trip. The vehicle driver’s identity and additional details about the circumstances leading to the accident were not released in the initial report.
