Desert Center, CA (May 23, 2026) – A 31-year-old motorist sustained major injuries on Friday morning following a two-vehicle collision involving two semi-trucks on Interstate 10 near Corn Springs Road.
The crash occurred shortly before 5:20 a.m. on May 22 in the eastbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators said a big rig driven by a 63-year-old man was traveling about 50 mph when it was struck from behind by another big rig moving at approximately 55 mph.
The impact caused significant damage to the second truck, with its cab separating from the frame. The 31-year-old driver from Bell Gardens was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment, while the driver of the other truck was not hurt.
We are thinking of the injured driver and hoping for his recovery.
Why Rear-End Collisions Involving Semi-Trucks Can Be Severe
Rear-end crashes involving large commercial vehicles can result in serious injuries due to the weight and force involved; even small differences in speed between heavy trucks can produce significant impact forces.
Investigators typically examine speed, driver alertness, braking distance, and lane conditions when reviewing these incidents. Fatigue is also commonly evaluated in commercial vehicle crashes because long driving hours can reduce reaction time.
Highway closures are usually required after major truck collisions to allow for medical response, vehicle recovery, and roadway cleanup. Evidence such as vehicle deformation and debris fields helps reconstruct how the impact occurred.
