The Kansas Highway Patrol said crews were called to the intersection just after 4 p.m. The woman was driving a 2012 Jeep Wrangler north on K-7 at the time.
A 2015 Ford Taurus emergency vehicle was pulling out from 130th St. with its lights and sirens on, headed to turn south onto K-7. Frequently Asked Questions
What steps can drivers take to avoid crashes at intersections?
Slowing down as you approach any intersection, checking carefully in all directions, and immediately giving way to any vehicle with lights or sirens on, regardless of who technically has the right of way, can prevent many of these collisions.
What injuries commonly result from rollover crashes?
Rollovers usually cause head, neck, and spinal injuries, along with broken bones, even when seat belts are worn, because occupants are thrown against the roof and sides of the vehicle as it turns over.
What typically causes crashes involving emergency vehicles?
These crashes usually happen when a driver does not see or hear an approaching emergency vehicle in time, misjudges its speed, or fails to yield at an intersection as it responds to a call.
Does speed make a difference in how severe a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which raises the chance of a rollover and the severity of injuries involved.
What to Do After a Rollover Crash in Bonner Springs, KS
If you're involved in a rollover crash, stay as still as possible until you can assess whether it's safe to move, since adrenaline can mask serious injuries in the first few minutes. Call 911 even if injuries seem minor, and let paramedics check you over at the scene. Get a full medical evaluation within a day or two regardless of how you feel, since soft tissue and spinal injuries from a rollover don't always show symptoms right away. Keep a copy of the police report and any medical records in case you need them later, and follow up with your own doctor if symptoms like pain, dizziness, or stiffness develop in the days after the crash.
