Frequently Asked Questions
How can I avoid getting caught in a pile-up on the highway?
Keep a safe following distance, watch brake lights ahead for sudden slowdowns, and reduce speed early when traffic data or alerts indicate a crash or congestion ahead.
What should I do if I come upon a crash scene on the highway?
Slow down well before reaching the blocked lanes, merge early and smoothly, and never stop to look. Follow instructions from emergency crews or posted signs directing traffic around the scene.
Why does following distance matter so much in highway crashes?
A longer following distance gives drivers more time to react to sudden braking or stopped traffic ahead, which lowers the chance of a chain-reaction collision involving multiple vehicles.
