Frequently Asked Questions
Does a vehicle's speed change a pedestrian's chance of survival?
Yes. Research consistently shows that the faster a vehicle is moving at impact, the more severe a pedestrian's injuries tend to be, and survival odds drop sharply as speed increases.
Where do most pedestrian crashes happen?
A large share occur at or near intersections and crosswalks, often when a pedestrian is crossing a roadway, similar to the circumstances reported in this case.
Are pedestrians at greater risk after dark?
Nighttime and low-light conditions are associated with a higher share of pedestrian deaths, largely because visibility is reduced for both drivers and people on foot.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Crash in Brick Township, NJ
If you witness a pedestrian crash, you should call 911 right away and avoid moving an injured person unless there's immediate danger, such as oncoming traffic. Staying nearby to speak with responding officers can help investigators piece together what happened. For anyone involved in or affected by a pedestrian crash, a prompt medical evaluation is important, since shock can mask pain or injury in the first hours afterward. Keeping a record of what was observed, including vehicle details and the time and location, can also support the official investigation as it moves forward.
