Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are common in head-on crashes?
Head-on crashes frequently cause chest, head, and leg injuries, since both vehicles absorb the combined force of impact. Severity usually depends on speed and whether seat belts or airbags were in use.
What causes a vehicle to cross into oncoming lanes?
A vehicle can cross a median or centerline for several reasons, including a tire blowout, mechanical failure, driver fatigue, a medical emergency, or impairment. The specific cause in any case is typically determined through investigation.
How can drivers avoid a head-on collision?
Staying alert, keeping a safe following distance, and not driving while drowsy or distracted can help drivers maintain control of their lane. Paying attention to road curves and median barriers also reduces the chance of crossing into oncoming traffic.
