Calaveras County, CA (January 11, 2026) – Emergency crews responded early on Saturday morning to a serious single-vehicle crash on Highway 49 near Red Hill Rd, just outside Tuttletown in Calaveras County. The incident was reported around 2:30 a.m. on January 10 and involved a vehicle that veered off the roadway and down a steep embankment.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the vehicle was traveling along a sharp curve when it left the roadway and plunged nearly 300 feet down an embankment. The exact number of occupants inside the vehicle has not been confirmed.
Firefighters and CHP troopers arrived quickly at the scene to provide aid to those involved. Emergency medical crews rendered care for minor injuries reported in the crash, though it remains unclear if any individuals required transport to a hospital.
Troopers also managed traffic control in the area as crews worked to clear the crash scene and evaluate the stability of the hillside. Only one lane of Highway 49 remained open for a period of time as operations continued.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, including whether driver fatigue, road conditions, or mechanical issues may have played a role.
Our thoughts are with those involved, and we hope for a full and swift recovery for anyone injured.
