Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving considered a major crash risk?
Taking attention off the road, even briefly, slows reaction time and limits a driver's ability to see hazards or traffic slowing ahead, which can turn a routine stretch of highway into a dangerous situation.
How do weather and road conditions factor into highway crashes?
Wet pavement, glare, fog, and other conditions reduce traction and visibility, usually forcing drivers to react later than they otherwise would on a faster-moving road like Route 50.
What should someone do right after a car accident?
Move to a safe spot if possible, call 911, and get checked out by medical personnel at the scene even if injuries aren't immediately obvious. Exchange information with other drivers and note details while they're fresh.
Where do most traffic accidents tend to happen?
Crashes cluster on busy roads, highways, and intersections where speeds and traffic volume are both higher, making a stretch like US 50 a common site for serious collisions.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Cambridge, Maryland
If you're involved in or witness a crash on a highway like US 50, get to a safe location away from moving traffic first. Call 911 right away, even for what seems like a minor collision, since injuries from a car crash aren't always obvious at first. Stay as calm as possible while waiting for first responders, and avoid moving an injured person unless there's an immediate danger like fire. Once you're safe, document what you can, including the time, location, and any vehicles or conditions involved, since this information can matter later. Follow up with a doctor in the days after a crash, even if you feel fine, because some injuries take time to show symptoms.
