Rollinsford, NH (May 29, 2026) – A two-vehicle collision on Portland Avenue (Route 4) left two New Hampshire residents with life-threatening injuries after a pickup truck crossed into opposing traffic on Wednesday afternoon, May 27, in Rollinsford.

According to investigators, a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 was traveling westbound near General Sullivan Way when it crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2003 Chevrolet Impala. The force of the collision sent both vehicles off the roadway, where they came to rest in a ditch along the south side of the road.

The Silverado driver, a 61-year-old man from Concord, was trapped inside the pickup and freed by emergency crews before being taken for treatment. The Impala driver, a 20-year-old Rollinsford resident, was also taken for medical care after passersby helped before officials arrived at the highway.

Portland Avenue was closed for several hours between General Sullivan Way and Roberts Road/Baer Road while crews cleared the roadway and documented the scene. No charges have been filed as the review continues.

Investigators continue reviewing all factors that led to the center-line departure and resulting roadway tragedy. Our thoughts are with both individuals and their families as they face this difficult time.

What Investigators Typically Examine in Center-Line Highway Collisions

After a serious roadway incident involving opposing traffic lanes, investigators often focus on vehicle paths, roadway markings, and physical evidence left behind. Tire marks, debris distribution, and final resting positions can help outline how each vehicle moved before contact occurred.

Driver behavior leading up to lane deviation is also reviewed through witness accounts and available video sources. Road design elements, such as curves, pavement width, and visibility conditions, may also be evaluated to identify contributing factors.

Mechanical inspections of involved vehicles can provide additional insight into steering or braking performance at the time of the event. Traffic flow patterns and speed estimates are often compared with roadway conditions to build a clearer picture of what occurred in the moments before the incident.
