CENTER TOWNSHIP, Indiana County, Penn., Oct. 23, 2026 — An electric bicycle rider died Thursday morning, October 22, in a collision with a pickup truck on U.S. Route 119 North at Lucerne Road in Center Township, state police said.
State police Trooper Cliff Greenfield said the crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. A 2023 Ford F-350 was headed north through the intersection on a green light, while the e-bike was crossing eastbound. Greenfield said the bicycle, for reasons still unclear, moved directly into the truck’s path and struck the vehicle’s right rear area, near the back wheel.
Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lanes of Route 119, police said. The e-bike rider, an adult man from Coral, Pennsylvania, was thrown from the bicycle in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Indiana County Coroner Jerry L. Overman Jr. was still working to notify next of kin as of Thursday afternoon, Greenfield said.
The truck’s driver, a 58-year-old man from New Alexandria in Westmoreland County, was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries described as minor. The Indiana County Coroner’s Office and a state police collision analysis and reconstruction unit responded to the scene, along with Citizens’ Ambulance Service, Homer City Volunteer Fire Department, Indiana County Emergency Management Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Import Auto Works handled towing.
The crash remains under investigation. Our sympathies are with the family of the person who lost their life, and we wish the injured driver a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do most car-bicycle crashes happen at intersections?
Yes. Intersections are where paths of travel cross, so a large share of bicycle-vehicle collisions occur there, often tied to turning movements or a rider or driver misjudging the other’s right of way.
What injuries do cyclists typically suffer in these crashes?
Riders are exposed with little protection, so head injuries, broken bones and road rash are common even in lower-speed impacts. Helmets reduce some risk but don’t prevent all serious injury.
What usually causes bicycle-vehicle collisions?
Common factors include a vehicle or bicycle failing to yield, limited visibility, distraction, and riders or drivers misjudging the other’s speed or position before entering an intersection.
What to Do After a Bicycle-Truck Crash in Center Township, Indiana
Anyone involved in or witnessing a crash like this should call 911 immediately and stay clear of traffic lanes until help arrives. If you’re a cyclist involved in a collision, seek medical evaluation even if you feel fine at first, since injuries like concussions or internal bruising aren’t always obvious right away. Get the names and badge numbers of responding officers, and ask how to obtain the official crash report once it’s filed. If you witnessed the crash, provide a statement to troopers while details are fresh. Photos of the scene, vehicle positions and any visible damage can help clarify what happened during the investigation that follows.
