Chicago, IL (January 8, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago left one man dead and another hospitalized on the morning of January 7. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. at the intersection of S Stony Island Ave and E 92nd St.
According to authorities, a black Cadillac was heading south on Stony Island when it struck a blue Mini Cooper. The impact of the crash caused the Mini Cooper to veer off the road and collide with a nearby business.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene. The 50-year-old man driving the Mini Cooper was rushed to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Cadillac, a 47-year-old man, was also transported to the same hospital and was reported to be in good condition.
There were no other injuries reported, and the extent of damage to the structure has not been detailed. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and detectives are working to determine what led to the fatal impact.
