What Can Cause Injuries When a Child Is Struck by a Vehicle?
Children can face a higher risk of injury in parking lots because vehicles may be moving through areas where people are walking between stores. Limited visibility, reversing vehicles, distracted driving, and crowded spaces can increase the chance of an accident.
The severity of injuries can depend on vehicle speed, the direction of impact, and where the person was struck. Medical evaluations may check for visible injuries as well as symptoms that develop later. Parking lot lighting, vehicle positioning, and surrounding traffic can also provide useful context when reviewing how an incident occurred.
