Why Entrapment Can Increase the Severity of a Rollover
Rollover crashes usually create added challenges because occupants may become trapped inside a vehicle after it overturns. Rescue efforts can take longer when doors are blocked or the vehicle is resting on its side or roof, requiring specialized equipment to safely reach those inside.
When children are involved, emergency crews also consider factors such as proper restraint use and the safest way to remove young passengers without causing additional harm. In more serious cases, a medical helicopter may be placed on standby if rapid transport to a trauma center could become necessary. Early reports from rollover crashes often change as more information becomes available, and the full extent of injuries may not be known until those involved have been evaluated by medical professionals.
