CHRISTINE, Cass County, N.D., Sept. 22, 2026 — A 49-year-old Christine man died early Sunday, September 20, after a driver fleeing a traffic stop at more than 100 mph ran a stop sign and struck his car at County Road 14 and County Road 81, according to the North Dakota State Patrol.
A state trooper attempted to stop a BMW M550xi clocked at 109 mph in a 55-mph zone near a rural Cass County intersection, troopers said. The driver reportedly kept going east on County Road 14, turned off the vehicle's headlights, and ran the stop sign where County Road 14 meets County Road 81.
The BMW then hit a southbound Honda Accord, according to the report. The Honda's driver, a 49-year-old man from Christine, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The BMW's driver, a 19-year-old man from Grand Forks, and two juvenile passengers, ages 16 and 17, also from Grand Forks, were taken to Sanford Hospital in Fargo with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
