Chula Vista, CA (May 3, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash caused traffic disruptions Friday morning along Interstate 805 in the Chula Vista area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 9:46 a.m. in the southbound lanes near East Palomar Street. Initial reports indicated that two to three vehicles were involved, with the crash blocking multiple middle lanes of the freeway.

Traffic delays extended into nearby areas as lanes were partially blocked during the response. At one point, the HOV and left lanes were affected while crews worked to manage the situation and clear the roadway.
By approximately 10:22 a.m., officials confirmed that all lanes had been reopened.
The extent of injuries has not been officially confirmed, but the situation suggests that injuries may have occurred.
The crash remains under investigation.
We hope for the safety and recovery of those involved.
What Happens When Crashes Block Multiple Highway Lanes?
Crashes that block several lanes on busy highways can quickly lead to significant traffic congestion and increased risk for secondary collisions. When vehicles are stopped or slowed unexpectedly, approaching drivers may not have enough time to react, especially during peak travel hours.
Emergency responders must work efficiently to secure the scene, assist those involved, and restore traffic flow as safely as possible. This often includes coordinating with tow services, directing traffic, and temporarily closing lanes.
Drivers approaching crash scenes should reduce speed, stay alert, and follow directions from emergency personnel. Maintaining safe distances and avoiding sudden maneuvers can help prevent additional incidents while crews are working.
