CHULA VISTA, San Diego County, Calif., Nov. 1, 2026 — Three vehicles collided on Saturday evening, October 31, on southbound State Route 125 near the Otay Lakes Road east on-ramp in Chula Vista, with at least one vehicle rolling onto its roof, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported shortly before 7:35 p.m. near the on-ramp. Radio traffic described a red SUV that had rolled over along with a gray sedan and a dark-colored vehicle, and separate updates referred to an SUV overturned alongside a white SUV. Dispatchers noted one vehicle on the main line of SR-125 and another on the ramp itself.
Early radio traffic also referenced an open phone line with music audible in the background, which CHP initially logged as a possible unknown-injury collision before updating the call to reflect units already en route. A later update reported no one trapped inside the vehicles.
Chula Vista Fire Department personnel responded and were reported blocking the second southbound lane while working the scene, and the on-ramp from Otay Lakes Road eastbound was shut down to traffic. CHP said the ramp to southbound SR-125 was later closed entirely as crews cleared the collision.
We hope everyone involved comes through this safely.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a "tripped" rollover?
A tripped rollover happens when a vehicle's tires hit a curb, soft shoulder, guardrail or other object that causes it to tip over, instead of rolling from high-speed steering alone. Many rollovers on ramps and shoulders fall into this category.
How can rollover risk be reduced on the road?
Keeping speeds appropriate for ramps and curves, avoiding sudden steering corrections, and maintaining proper tire pressure all help a vehicle stay planted during sharp maneuvers.
Are rollovers more common on certain types of roads?
Ramps, curves and roads with uneven shoulders see more rollovers because of tighter turning radii and inconsistent surfaces compared to straight highway lanes.
What injuries are common in rollover crashes?
Occupants in rollovers can suffer head, neck and spinal injuries, especially if unrestrained, since they may be thrown against the roof or windows as the vehicle turns over.
