What Investigators Typically Review in Single-Vehicle Fixed-Object Crashes
Single-vehicle crashes involving fixed objects, such as bridge supports or utility structures, are often examined to determine why a driver left the roadway. Investigators commonly review vehicle trajectory, roadway alignment, and any evidence of steering or braking before impact.
Damage patterns on both the vehicle and the struck structure can help establish speed and angle of collision. These details may also assist in reconstructing how the vehicle crossed into an opposing lane or left its intended path.
Seat belt use is another factor frequently assessed in these incidents, as it can influence injury severity during high-impact collisions. Road conditions, visibility, and driver condition are also typically reviewed when determining the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
