Frequently Asked Questions
What should a rider do immediately after a motorcycle crash?
If possible, get to a safe spot away from traffic, call 911, and avoid moving an injured rider unless there's an immediate danger like fire. Make sure to exchange information with any other drivers involved and wait for police to arrive and document the scene.
Do motorcycle crashes happen more frequently at intersections?
Intersections are a common location for motorcycle crashes because they involve turning vehicles, cross traffic, and drivers who may not see a smaller, narrower motorcycle in time to react.
How does the road surface affect motorcycle safety?
Loose gravel, wet pavement, potholes, and uneven surfaces affect motorcycles more than cars because a bike relies on two narrow contact points for balance and traction.
What gear helps reduce injury for riders?
A DOT-approved helmet, a reinforced jacket and pants, gloves, and over-the-ankle boots are commonly recommended to reduce the severity of injuries in a crash.
