Cobb County, GA (January 12, 2026) – A Douglas County deputy was injured early on Sunday morning when a vehicle failed to move over and crashed into two police vehicles on an Interstate 20 off-ramp in Cobb County, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
The incident took place around 4:45 a.m. on the ramp from I-20 West to Riverside Parkway. At the time, Georgia State Patrol troopers were assisting Douglas County deputies in the aftermath of a police pursuit that had ended with a PIT maneuver.
While officers were on scene with emergency lights activated, a 2015 Kia Forte approached and failed to reduce speed or change lanes, as required by Georgia’s Move Over Law. The Kia first sideswiped a marked Douglas County Sheriff’s Office SUV before rear-ending the GSP trooper’s vehicle.
Both law enforcement officers were inside their vehicles during the crash. The deputy sustained injuries and was transported to WellStar Douglas Hospital for further evaluation. The trooper reported discomfort but declined medical treatment at the scene.
The driver of the Kia has not yet been publicly identified, and it is unclear whether any citations or charges have been filed. GSP officials continue to investigate the incident.
We wish the injured deputy a full and speedy recovery and remind all drivers to slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles.
