What Drivers in Ohio Should Know About Left-of-Center Crashes
A left-of-center crash happens when a vehicle drifts or turns into the lane of oncoming traffic. These collisions are among the most severe on two-lane roads because both vehicles are typically moving toward each other at the time of impact. The combined force makes serious injury or death far more likely than in many other crash types.
On rural state routes in Ohio, like those running through Columbiana County, there are no physical barriers separating opposing traffic. That means a vehicle that crosses the center line has almost nothing to stop it from reaching oncoming drivers. Factors such as driver distraction, a sudden medical event, or fatigue can all cause a vehicle to leave its lane without any warning to others on the road.
