Laurens, SC (June 26, 2026) – A construction worker lost his life after a workplace accident at a Walmart store in Laurens late on Wednesday night.
The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. on June 24 at the Walmart on East Main Street. The store was undergoing remodeling work at the time. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Officials have not released details explaining how the workplace accident occurred. Walmart had announced in May that it was hiring temporary overnight workers to assist with the remodeling project.
The store is located about two miles from downtown Laurens, near the I-385 and I-26 corridor between Greenville and Columbia.
The circumstances surrounding the workplace accident are being examined as more information is gathered.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the man’s family, friends, and coworkers during this difficult time.
What Is Usually Reviewed After a Fatal Workplace Accident?
A fatal workplace accident is typically followed by a detailed review of the work environment and the tasks being performed. Investigators often examine equipment, work procedures, safety practices, and whether any hazards were present before the fatal injury occurred.
They may also review maintenance records, training documentation, witness statements, and any available surveillance footage. The goal is to determine the sequence of actions that led to the loss of life and identify whether workplace safety requirements were followed. Findings from these reviews can help improve safety practices on future construction and remodeling projects. In many cases, additional details become available only after investigators complete interviews and examine physical evidence collected from the work site.
