Coweta County, GA (May 1, 2026) – Six high school students were injured late on Thursday morning following a single-vehicle crash in Coweta County.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred around 10:40 a.m. on Vaughn Road, north of Brandon Lane. Investigators say a male student driving a 2021 Honda Accord was traveling too fast for road conditions when he lost control while navigating a curve.
The vehicle reportedly ran off the roadway, struck a utility pole, and then crashed into a large tree before coming to a stop.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported all six occupants, identified as students from Northgate High School, to hospitals in the Atlanta area for treatment. Authorities confirmed that two female students sustained serious injuries and were airlifted, while the remaining students were treated for injuries of varying severity.
School officials were notified shortly after the crash and stated that counseling services have been made available for students impacted by the incident.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
We hope for a full recovery for all those injured.
Why Are Single-Vehicle Crashes on Curves So Dangerous?
Single-vehicle crashes on curves often occur when drivers misjudge speed or road conditions. Curves require careful control of a vehicle’s speed and direction, and even slight miscalculations can cause a driver to lose control.
When a vehicle leaves the roadway, it may strike fixed objects such as poles or trees, which can lead to more severe impacts. Unlike collisions with other vehicles, these objects do not move, increasing the force experienced by occupants.
Teen drivers, in particular, may have less experience handling curves or adjusting to changing road conditions. Reducing speed, staying focused, and understanding road geometry are key steps in preventing these types of crashes.
