Why Multi-Vehicle Crashes Cause Traffic Delays
Multi-vehicle crashes can create significant traffic problems because damaged vehicles may block several lanes at once. When collisions happen near busy highway connections or intersections, congestion can spread quickly and affect nearby roads for extended periods.
Emergency crews often need additional space to assist injured people, direct traffic, and remove debris from the roadway. Tow trucks and investigators may also remain at the site for some time while vehicles are cleared and evidence is documented.
Drivers approaching blocked lanes may face sudden slowdowns, which can increase the risk of secondary crashes if motorists are not paying close attention. Heavy traffic, merging vehicles, and reduced visibility around stopped cars can make these situations more dangerous for everyone traveling through the area.
