Frequently Asked Questions
Why do trucks need so much distance to stop?
Loaded tractor-trailers can weigh tens of thousands of pounds more than a passenger car, and that extra weight means they need much longer braking distances, especially at highway speed or in poor conditions.
What makes truck crashes different from typical car crashes?
The size and weight gap between a truck and a passenger vehicle means the smaller vehicle absorbs most of the impact, often leading to more severe injuries for car occupants.
What is an underride crash?
An underride crash happens when a smaller vehicle slides partly or fully beneath a truck or trailer during a collision. These crashes can be especially dangerous because the vehicle's safety structure isn't designed to absorb impact at that height.
What to Do After a Truck Crash in Crozet, VA
If you're involved in a truck crash, try to move to a safe location if possible and call 911 right away. Even if injuries seem minor, it's worth getting checked by a medical professional, since some injuries from a collision don't show symptoms immediately. Take photos of the scene if you're able, note the names of any responding officers, and ask how to obtain a copy of the official crash report once it's filed. Giving yourself time to rest and follow up with a doctor in the days after a crash can make a real difference in recovery.
