Ames, TX (August 2, 2026) – A woman was killed, and five other people, including two infants and a toddler, were injured in a Friday evening head-on crash on US 90 west of FM 1909 near Ames. The accident reportedly happened at approximately 8:45 p.m.
Official reports indicate a westbound 2016 Kia SUV attempted to pass a 2016 Nissan SUV and entered the eastbound lane, where it collided head-on with an eastbound 2023 Kia SUV. After the initial impact, the westbound Kia also struck the Nissan before all three vehicles came to rest off or along the roadway. Both Kia SUVs caught fire, with the eastbound Kia being destroyed by the flames. Several bystanders pulled occupants from the vehicles before emergency crews arrived due to entrapment.
The driver of the westbound Kia, 27-year-old Stormy King of Houston, was taken to HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood. Her 1-year-old child and 1-month-old child were transported to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. The driver of the eastbound Kia, a 62-year-old woman from Vidor, died at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released pending family notification. Danielle Scott, 33, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, who was driving the Nissan, and her 2-year-old child were both taken to Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital.
